Coastal walking in Thy National Park: Denmark

Well I am back from a 3 day trip in Denmark's first national park Thy National Park. The walk followed the coastline along the Redningsdvejen (The Lifeboat Trail). The sun shone and the wind blew and it was a very enjoyable trip. A trip report will follow as well as some gear comments especially on the Gossamer Gear Gorilla, Trail Designs Caldera Inferno as well as the bivy tarp combo used. The photo shows the MLD Grace Solo tarp and the BPL Vapor bivy.

  1. Oh, an Inferno, nice! Mine is coming soon =) And that tarp looks great. Been thinking about a tarp lately, MLD for sure, but which one?

Looking forward to your report and photos.

  2. Ditto and I've just ordered my Gorilla from GG which will hopefully arrive in the next few days - its currently been processed for customs charges - GRRRR.

I'm really interested in your comments on the Gorilla, perhaps even a few photos to keep me going?!!!

As always looking forward to the trip report.

  3. Hendrik, my tarp is the original Grace Solo, so no linelocs and it is in Spinntex, I have never been in bad weather with it, but I know it would stand up to the weather as it goes up tight as a drum. For me it is my tarp of choice and well worth a look at what MLD offers these days.
Marcus, I am very happy with the Gorilla, the wide shoulder straps are maybe a little too wide for em now (I loved them with the Gossamer Gear G6), but using a softer foam padding worked. Photos, stay tuned.

  4. Roger that tarp looks like it's been pitched to perfection! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Inferno.

  5. Talking kit we love it. I am looking out for that review and the walk write-up. Denmark is still the only Scandinavian country I have been to. Good that you had a great time.

  6. Roger, I'm looking forward to your photos and trip report.

You know that I've been looking at the Gorilla. Hope your review is positive. My birthday is coming up. :-)

  7. Thanks Holdfast, I have always been able to get a nice taut pitch the MLD Grace Solo, I suppose it comes down to design, fabric and a little bit of playing with the tautness and location of the guy lines. Having said that, it is an easy tarp to pitch.

Martin you need to visit more of Scandinavia with that Duo Mid, it is the ideal colour for wild camping.

Dondo, the report on the Gorilla is very positive, just need to find the time to write it up, most likely later in the week.
